The online Master of Science in Cybersecurity from Syracuse University helps you build the technical depth to design secure systems, analyze threats, detect anomalies, and protect critical information infrastructure. Through live online classes in secure system design, assurance, malware analysis, anomaly detection, and cybersecurity engineering, you will prepare to move beyond defense and into the architecture of security.

Offered through Syracuse University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science, this 30-credit program has no GRE requirement and can be completed in as few as 20 months while you continue working.

Cybersecurity Curriculum

The cybersecurity curriculum combines the theory and applied practice needed to design, secure and assure complex systems. Students build a foundation in secure system design, network and internet security, and logic-based assurance, while exploring how to detect and counter emerging cyberthreats.

The program totals 30 credit hours—12 credits of core coursework, 12 credits of technical cybersecurity electives and 6 credits of CIS/CSE courses at the 600 level or above—giving students room to specialize in areas such as cryptography, malware analysis, machine learning and data mining.

Graduates of the program may pursue careers including:

Admissions

  • Completed application
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.  Degree in computer science, computer engineering, cybersecurity or a related technical field is preferred.  Students with degrees from other fields are encouraged to apply, and may receive a Conditional Admit.  See below for more details.
  • Official transcripts for all undergraduate- and graduate-level coursework
  • Demonstrated competency in data structures, discrete mathematics and programming
  • Resume
  • Personal statement
  • Two letters of recommendation

No GRE scores are required to apply.

Core competency in discrete mathematics, calculus, data structures and computer organization, plus a programming language (C/C++ preferred) is required for our program.

Applicants without the necessary technical background are encouraged to apply and may receive a Conditional Admit to our program.  Applicants given a Conditional Admit will complete our bridge course sequence (3 courses), which will be available in early 2027.  Upon successful completion of the sequence, students are then given full admittance into our program.  The bridge course sequence is offered free of charge to applicants who are given a Conditional Admit to our program.
