Types of Online Bachelor's Programs Offered by Syracuse University
Syracuse offers several types of online bachelor's degrees. Each degree provides a robust education, applicable skills and valid credentials for employment, but they differ in how coursework is structured and the types of skills they emphasize.
Bachelor of Science (B.S.)
A B.S. degree typically balances liberal arts and professional coursework, with about half of credits in liberal arts and the other half focused on a major or professional field.

Bachelor of Professional Studies (B.P.S.)
A B.P.S. degree emphasizes professional and career-focused learning. Approximately 75% of coursework focuses on professional competencies and major requirements, with the remaining 25% in liberal arts coursework.

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)
A B.A. places the strongest emphasis on liberal arts education. Generally, about 75% of coursework focuses on liberal arts disciplines, while the remaining 25% focuses on a major or career-specific study.

A Well-Rounded Academic Foundation
In addition to major coursework, students complete general education requirements designed to build essential skills in writing, critical thinking, analysis and communication. These courses may include subjects such as humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, quantitative reasoning and ethical inquiry. Together, these areas help students develop the broad perspective and problem-solving abilities needed to succeed across industries and professional environments.
General education coursework is integrated with each program's major and professional competencies, ensuring students graduate with both discipline-specific expertise and a well-rounded academic foundation.
Transfer Credit
Syracuse University evaluates transfer credit based on the content of previously completed courses, how they apply to your intended program and the quality of your academic performance. Our admissions team can help review coursework completed at other accredited institutions to determine how those credits may apply toward your Syracuse degree.
Students may also have the opportunity to earn credit for prior learning through a personalized evaluation process. This pathway allows eligible students to demonstrate knowledge and skills gained through professional experience, training or other learning outside of a traditional academic setting.

Making a Syracuse Degree Affordable
A Syracuse University education may be more accessible than you think. Part-time tuition for online undergraduate programs is comparable to many private colleges, and our team works with students to identify financial options that support their educational goals.
Part-time undergraduate students admitted and enrolled in a College of Professional Studies online program may be eligible for our Tuition Incentive Grant, which reduces the per-credit rate from $750 to $575.
